Ignites Europe recently published an article titled 'Will asset managers change to a four-day week?'. A poll suggested that many were overwhelming in favour of a longer weekend.
They asked for expert opinions and comments on the subject, and Caroline Walker, the Managing Director and founder of Cavendish Employment Law, made numerous contributions:
Caroline Walker, managing director at Cavendish Employment Law, says employees can enjoy clear "mental and physical benefits" from having an extra day off.
However, she also points out that clients may express concerns about the impact on "fast-paced cases", as delays could occur, with urgent messages not being responded
to and time-sensitive offers lapsing.
To address some of these pitfalls, she says teams adopting the policy would need to be organised in a way that ensures there is "no loss of cover" and the business is not "adversely affected".
Walker also says it will be difficult for asset managers to resist this change, particularly if they wish to compete effectively with rival firms to attract and retain talent.
"With burnout at the highest levels for over a decade, [younger employees] are more focused on a healthy work-life balance," she says.
